Christian lost his dear wife Sheila in July 2016 during a Caesarian section to deliver their third child, Walbert. The devastation to the family and loss of income from Shiela was overwhelming for Christian and the kids. For a year now, the HSF has been supporting the family with financial assistance to help meet the daily needs of the kids and also to help provide Nanny services. Financial assistance is still ongoing.
Emmanuel, Eunice, and Emmanuella are being taken care of by their father, Kingsley (widower). These very young triplets lost their mother, Eunice, just one day after birth, on May 25, 2016.
These innocent triplets celebrated their first birthday on the 24th May 2017 without their biological mother but are doing well. Though the father is working hard to take cater for their daily needs with limited resources, HSF is supporting the family with financial support to complement his income to help the family’s needs.
How would life be without a mother? Few hours after delivery of an innocent baby the mother dies. No sufficient amount of words can convey the inherent challenges an innocent baby will face in life without a mother. Maternal mortality can devastate livelihoods, quality of life, and survival chances of those she leaves behind.
The Health Support Foundation (HSF) aims to reduce the economic and social burden of maternal mortality on surviving children from ages Zero to Seven years by providing financial, in-kind donation and counseling support to the affected family that needs such assistance. The impact of maternal mortality on the affected child and the immediate family is far reaching. First, a permanent emotional and a physical vacuum is created. Second, loss of income results, whether or not the victim was gainfully employed. If the victim was not gainfully employed the surviving parent has to divide his time to the upkeep of the child and hence may need to adjust his or her work schedule to accommodate childcare demands. A consequence of such divided attention is loss of income, which may affect the ability to provide certain basic necessities such as food, clothing or even shelter depending the situation. As a consequence, the overall developmental progress of the child can be undermined without an adequate support system that meets these needs. In countries where adequate social welfare programs are in place, the adverse impact of maternal mortality on the child and the immediate family is less dire. In contrast, in societies where no or weak social welfare services are provided for affected families, the impact of maternal mortality on the surviving child can be life altering in uncertain ways. HSF aims to minimize the impact of maternal mortality on surviving children through targeted support that meet their emotional, physical and financial needs. |
