Our Mission
Maternal mortality has devastating consequences on livelihoods, quality of life, and the survival of those left behind. What does life look like without a mother? In some cases, just hours after delivering a newborn, a mother passes away. No words can fully capture the challenges an innocent child will face growing up without a mother’s care, guidance, and love.
The Health Support Foundation (HSF) exists to reduce the economic and social burden of maternal mortality on surviving children from birth to sixteen years of age. We do this by providing financial support, in-kind donations, and counseling services to affected families in need.
The impact of maternal mortality on a child and their immediate family is far-reaching. It creates a permanent emotional and physical void. In addition, there is often a loss of income—whether or not the mother was formally employed. If she was working, her income is lost; if she was not, the surviving parent must divide time between work and childcare, often leading to reduced earning capacity. This can affect the family’s ability to provide basic necessities such as food, clothing, and shelter.
Without adequate support, the overall development and well-being of the child can be significantly undermined. In countries with strong social welfare systems, these effects may be less severe. However, in communities where such support is limited or nonexistent, the consequences can be life-altering and long-lasting.
HSF is committed to minimizing these impacts by providing targeted support that addresses the emotional, physical, and financial needs of affected children and their families.
